Victoria Tower

The foundation stone of the Victoria Tower was laid by Major-General John Bell, the Lieutenant Governor, on 2 April 1848, in commemoration of the visit of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert two years earlier. The tower replaced a windmill, which itself had replaced a megalithic structure broken up in the sixteenth century. It stands 96 feet high and cost £2000. There's a view from the top here.
