Guernsey Fishermen

Guernsey fishermenThe Salerie (2000)
Guernsey Fishermen. Tuck & Sons "Glosso", Guernsey and Sark series III, postcard series 5521.

This image shows the small quay at the Salerie Corner, just north of St Peter Port harbour. Although posted in 1954, it dates from as many as forty years or more before. The caption on the back reads: 'Guernsey Fishermen. These men go out to catch the more delicate kinds of fish for the London markets but reserve for Guernsey consumption the large crayfish, big crabs and monster conger-eels that Channel waters supply. The latter, which are especially esteemed, must be fished for at night among black reefs 15 miles away from Guernsey."
