The splendid shopfront on the right belonged to Boot's Cash Chemists. Opposite, at 19 Smith Street, were the registered offices of various mining and other companies; advertising for Chas. Kitts, stock and share broker, and G.N. Read & Son, Chartered Accountants, is just visible on the columns at the extreme left. The dark shopfront further down on the left carries advertising for Singer Sewing Machines, and next to that is the Post Office. The Yacht Hotel is at the bottom of the hill, facing the viewer, in what is now Boot's.
